The major conflict arises when a wealthy parent, Chief Omotola, attempts to "donate" a set of air conditioners in exchange for his son's grade alteration. Bepo’s flat refusal establishes the novel's primary theme: Integrity vs. Materialism. The chapter ends with a sense of foreboding as Chief Omotola threatens to take his influence elsewhere, highlighting the precarious position of private schools that choose ethics over profit.
